According to Sputnik International, the US guided missile destroyer Cole is currently in the Croatian port of Split
The USS Cole will be in Croatia as part of a mission to further relations with partners in Europe, the US Navy announced in a press release on Tuesday.
The USS Cole was bombed by terrorists on 12 October 2000, while it was being refueled in Yemen’s Aden harbor. Seventeen American sailors were killed and 39 injured in the deadliest attack against a United States naval vessel since 1987. The terrorist organization al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack.
Croatia is in the US 6th Fleet’s area of operation. The US 6th Fleet is headquartered in Italy and patrols about half of the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to Antarctica, as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North seas.
